The city of Indian
Wells is home to some of the country's wealthiest retirees who flock to
world-class golf courses once played by entertainer Bing Crosby and
President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It has always been a destination of
the priveleged class. It's home every year to the Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic golf tournament and the prestigious Desert Town Hall of Indian
Wells lecture series. Today, the city focuses on landscape and
beautification. In 1990, the city won a national citation of
excellence in urban design by the American Institute of Architects, for
its beautification effort of a former stagecoach trail within city
limits. In addition to preserving its resort and residential status,
the city hopes to become the Coachella Valley's financial district,
enticing brokerage, accounting and banking firms to build and settle
within city limits. MAYOR ROB BERNHEIMER __________________________________________________________________
